Hi!
Day 5 of this experiment.
You’ve sent me some nice messages.
Thank you.
The open rate has consistently been above 45%.
That tells me that you like this.
I’ll keep doing this next week.
My goal is to add a little bit longer form stuff as we go.
But for now, just dropping the quick hits seems to help.
On Friday’s there is a Twitter chat for marketing folks that I’ve been tagged in called “Simon’s Place.”
I posted this picture of Penny the Bulldog because the vibe is definitely dog friendly.

To the BIG Ticket Story!
Beth Bentley talks about algorithms and “Meh-ification”:
Not a direct ticket story, but an important lesson.
Beth hypothesizes that the algorithm has delivered too much sameness to our lives.
I agree with this hypothesis.
I think it impacts your marketing and strategy.
How?
You default to doing the same things that everyone else is doing.
What ends up happening is that you end up chasing the same KPIs that everyone else is chasing.
This is a formula for failure.
Remember the thing your mom or dad said to you about “if everyone else was jumping off a bridge?”
That’s what the algorithm has so many of us doing: jumping off the bridge because everyone else is doing it.
You can’t do the same thing and stand out.
So three tips for helping think about standing out:
What unique attributes do you have? Or which ones do you want to highlight?
Who are you targeting? You can’t just say everyone. You have to be for someone. You must say, “We aren’t really for this group.”
Think about the promotion channels you are using.
Do you want me to explain these more?
Let me know.
Just hit reply.
