200,000 'Core Fans' in a Market of 22M+??
New Podcast with Al Crawley...and I'm hitting the road!
Hi!
New podcast alert:
Alasdair Crawley, CEO of FanBase based in Edinburgh is on the podcast this week.
What did we talk about?
Here are some highlights from my POV:
The importance of getting the basics right before moving on to the popular new thing, Al calls it being a “consultative tech company.”
Building around the core as the foundation of building a solid connection with your fans.
Al and his team get people to focus on 3 things or less. Why? Because you can’t be everything to everyone.
The need to break down the silos inside your organization.
Why you need to review your tech stack and what you can achieve with a modernized tech solution.
How to use data and really understand your customers.
This is a banger! Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
I’m Coming To Your Town!
‘Fans for Life’ new and improved for 2024:
NYC September 4, 2024
Melbourne, Australia, 19 November, 2024
I’ll open the sign up pages next week, but mark your calendars now.
I’ve rebuilt the entire experience from the last time I’ve done this and we are going to cover a ton of stuff!
You will learn:
How you can do market research even if your budget is $0!
You will learn about the secret formula +1 = 11% growth.
I’m going to teach you ticket math and give you some of the numbers I use to evaluate sales health.
The number: 90% and what that has to do with your brand and your ticket sales.
This is just the start!
New and improved!
Plus, I’ll be in London from 28 June to 8 July and I want to see your lovely face.
Here are my plans for my trip to London:
Pearl Jam at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Wimbledon. The one event Kathryn has always wanted to see.
The National at Crystal Palace Park on 5 July.
So, let’s tentatively plan on getting together in London on 2 July for a pint or two.
Jamie Snelgrove took me to a wonderful pub the last time I was in London…but you know me, if I am picking we are probably going to go to BrewDog.
You want to be notified when I put the workshops on sale or when I figure out where we are meeting in London, hit reply!
A few links:
JLo’s tickets aren’t selling very well.
Logistics has bus tire tracks on its back.
Here is a snap of the DC date:
That was similar at every date I’ve seen.
What’s going on?
The promo campaign for her new album wasn’t a hit.
This is the tour she should have had ready to go after the Super Bowl.
Ticket prices are high and I think we have to pay attention to things that may give us a bit more understanding of what people are dealing with like this story on FT.com about the rise in instant noodle consumption.
“Core Fans” should be your teams focus to maximize revenue:
I have thoughts…
I’m going to come back to this, but my I’ll give you 3 key ones right now and ask for your thoughts because I’ve emailed about a half dozen of you to see what you think.
“Extracting more…” This language bugs me because my belief is that it is the idea of “extracting” the maximum out of every touchpoint is one of the root causes that a lot of sports are struggling to get people into the stadiums.
150,000-200,000 as your hardcore database is some tough math. The NYC metro area is 22M+.
If 50-75% of your ticket revenue is coming from STH, how much of that is from corporations and how much of that is from the secondary market where the data you might be relying might not have the utility you need.
Tell me what your take is here? I’m curious and I’m trying to flesh out my thoughts fully.
But you know my view on seeing marketing and strategy through the eyes of how do I win customers and serve them in a way that I can make money…
I broke down and bought Twitter Premium…
I wanted to see what the monetization model looked like and if the features really made a difference.
Takeaways after a week:
You can tell which topics and posts Elon gets throttled.
You can see where trendy topics get you a huge boost: #KateGate
You might want to tread carefully on investing too much money on it to sell tickets for your shows/games.
Have you tried Twitter premium?
Let me know what you think?
HOW AM I DOING?
I love to hear from you.
How am I doing with ‘Talking Tickets’?
Is there anything you’d like to see more or less of?
Which aspects of the newsletter (and/or podcast) do you enjoy the most?
Hit reply and say hello — I’d love to hear from you!
Cheers!
Dave
PS. Do me a solid and share this sucker with someone that might have an opinion on the “core fan” article, sports tech, or my Twitter addiction!
